The Porsche Macan EV is making waves in the electric vehicle market, not just for its power, but also for its efficiency. In a recent range test, the Macan averaged an impressive 3 miles per kilowatt-hour at 80 mph, showcasing its ability to maintain efficiency even at high speeds. Additionally, the Macan can charge from 10% to 80% state of charge in just 20 minutes, thanks to its capability to take in 270 kilowatts from a DC fast charger.
A recent test conducted by InsideEVs contributor and State of Charge host Tom Moloughney delved deeper into the Macan’s efficiency at different speeds. The results showed that at 70 mph, the Macan RWD with 20-inch aero wheels achieved a range of 343 miles on a full charge, with an energy efficiency of 3.7 miles/kWh. At 80 mph, the range dropped to 284 miles on a full battery, averaging 3.0 miles/kWh.
While driving at higher speeds can decrease the range of the Macan EV, its fast charging capabilities make up for it. Charging from 10% to 80% takes just 21 minutes with a powerful enough DC fast charger providing 300 kW. This means that even if you opt for faster driving speeds, the Macan EV can quickly recharge, allowing you to get back on the road in no time.
In terms of time efficiency, driving for three hours at 70 mph will cover 210 miles, while driving the same amount of time at 80 mph will result in 240 miles. This means that despite the decrease in range at higher speeds, the Macan EV can cover more ground in the same amount of time.
Overall, the Porsche Macan EV proves to be a versatile and efficient electric crossover, capable of delivering power and performance while maintaining impressive efficiency levels. Whether you prefer to drive at slower or faster speeds, the Macan EV offers a compelling option for those looking to make the switch to electric vehicles.
