Tesla’s Robotaxi Program in Austin Now Offering Unsupervised Rides to the Public

Tesla’s Robotaxi program in Austin recently achieved a significant milestone by offering fully autonomous rides to the public using Full Self-Driving “Unsupervised,” with no human in the front seats — not even a safety monitor. This marks a major leap for Tesla’s autonomy ambitions.
Earlier, Tesla had started testing completely unmanned Robotaxi runs in Austin, initially without drivers, safety monitors, or passengers. Now, real riders are being welcomed to experience the autonomous rides on public roads.
One of the first passengers to share his experience was Tesla enthusiast Phil Duan, who documented his ride through Austin streets with no human supervision in the vehicle at all. This shift aligns with Elon Musk’s recent comments about solving unsupervised Full Self-Driving and rolling out Robotaxis without safety monitors or anyone in the front seats.
With public rides now in progress, Tesla’s promise to transition to rides with no one in the vehicle except riders before the end of the year seems to be materializing. The company’s aggressive pace of iteration on Full Self-Driving is accelerating the rollout, with the Robotaxi fleet believed to be running FSD builds ahead of what customers currently have access to.
Tesla’s long-promised autonomous future is no longer theoretical as unsupervised Robotaxi rides are now open to the public in Austin. The latest advancements in FSD technology indicate that true autonomous driving is on the horizon, with Elon Musk teasing the upcoming FSD 14.3 as the “last big piece” needed for achieving autonomy.
