Tesla is making significant progress in ramping up the test manufacturing of its groundbreaking Cybercab vehicle at Gigafactory Texas. The company is gearing up for mass production, which is set to begin next month. A recent drone footage captured by Joe Tegtmeyer showcased a total of 25 Cybercabs scattered across the Gigafactory Texas property. This marks a clear increase in testing and validation activities as Tesla prepares for broader output.
The footage revealed 14 metallic gold Cybercabs parked in a formation outside the factory exit, showcasing their sleek, autonomous-only design with no traditional controls. Additionally, 9 units were spotted at the crash testing facility undergoing safety validations, while 2 more were seen at the end-of-line area for final checks. Tegtmeyer also noted several Cybercabs actively driving around the complex, indicating real-world testing beyond static parking.
This surge in production follows the first Cybercab rolling off the line in mid-February, ahead of schedule. The milestone jumpstarted low-volume builds on the dedicated manufacturing line, designed to streamline production and reduce costs. Industry experts view the increase in visible units in early March as a sign of Tesla transitioning into higher-volume test manufacturing.
Tesla is still on track for volume production, expected to begin in the next four to eight weeks. CEO Elon Musk has emphasized the deliberate approach to ramping up production due to the Cybercab’s unique architecture and reliance on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology. The Cybercab, priced below $30,000, is envisioned as an autonomous two-seater for robotaxi fleets, signaling Tesla’s shift towards scalable autonomy and robotics.
The progress at Gigafactory Texas has generated excitement among Tesla enthusiasts, with many praising the visible advancements towards deployment. While challenges like software development, regulatory approvals, and supply chain scaling remain, the increased factory activity reflects Tesla’s momentum in bringing the Cybercab vision to life.
As Gigafactory Texas continues to refine the manufacturing process, the upcoming months will be crucial in determining the timeline for the Cybercab’s road deployment in the U.S. and internationally. The journey towards mass production and commercial availability of the Cybercab represents a significant step towards revolutionizing the automotive industry with autonomous, electric vehicles.
