Lucid Motors’ interim CEO Marc Winterhoff recently discussed the company’s position in the electric vehicle market and its success in attracting former Tesla owners. According to Winterhoff, Lucid has been gaining traction among customers who are looking for alternatives to Tesla, particularly due to the aging lineup of the Model S.
Winterhoff emphasized that Lucid is facing a challenging journey ahead but remains optimistic about the company’s future. He also mentioned Uber’s investment in Lucid and the ride-hailing giant’s order of 20,000 units of the Lucid Gravity, a direct competitor to the Tesla Model X. Additionally, Winterhoff highlighted the importance of releasing an affordable model, the Lucid Gravity, priced at around $50,000, to expand the company’s market reach.
One of the key factors driving former Tesla owners to consider Lucid is the perceived lack of innovation in Tesla’s Model S. Winterhoff pointed out that the Model S has remained largely unchanged for 12 years, leading customers to explore other options like the Lucid Air. Despite Winterhoff’s comments, it is worth noting that Tesla has made significant upgrades to the Model S, including the Plaid upgrade in 2021 and a recent refresh.
While the Tesla Model S and Model X have seen a decline in sales, Tesla is making efforts to enhance the appeal of these flagship vehicles. The introduction of the “Luxe” package for the Model S and Model X is evidence of Tesla’s commitment to improving these models and attracting consumers. As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, competition between companies like Lucid and Tesla will drive innovation and benefit customers seeking advanced and sustainable transportation options.
