Tesla has surprised European customers by introducing a new entry-level variant of the Model Y. The Model Y Standard Long Range RWD offers an impressive 657 km of WLTP-rated range, making it the most efficient Model Y to date with just 12.7 kWh per 100 km. Despite being priced around €5,000 more than the basic Model Y Standard, this new configuration provides significantly more driving range.
This launch is unexpected, as Europe is the first market to receive the Long Range rear-wheel-drive configuration, even though the Model Y Standard initially debuted in the U.S. last October before expanding to Europe. Tesla has been actively reshaping its lineup globally, recently introducing the budget Model Y Standard RWD in Canada as well, with vehicles now being supplied from Gigafactory Berlin.
The existing base Model Y Standard offers up to 534 km of WLTP range, a top speed of 201 km/h, and a 0–100 km/h time of 7.2 seconds. In contrast, the new Long Range RWD variant prioritizes efficiency and distance while maintaining competitive pricing. Despite being positioned as a lower-cost option, the Model Y Standard lineup upholds Tesla’s core safety and efficiency standards, running on the latest Hardware 4 (HW4) platform.
To achieve the lower price point, Tesla has made some trade-offs in features. The panoramic glass roof is replaced with a fabric headliner, the steering wheel and second-row seats are manually adjustable, and luxury features like ventilated seats, heated rear seats, and the rear passenger touchscreen are not included in this variant.
It is uncertain when or if Tesla will launch the Model Y Standard Long Range in other markets. However, for European buyers seeking range and value, this new Model Y variant presents a compelling EV option. As Tesla continues to experiment with pricing and configurations across global markets, the Model Y Standard Long Range RWD could be a popular choice for those looking for a balance of efficiency and affordability.
