Porsche is making waves in the electric vehicle market with the upcoming release of the first-ever electric Cayenne. This new addition to the Porsche lineup is set to revolutionize the SUV segment with cutting-edge battery and charging technology.
The electric Cayenne will feature a massive 108-kilowatt-hour battery pack, powered by LG-supplied pouch cells. This substantial battery capacity will provide a driving range of over 373 miles on the WLTP test cycle, making it one of the most impressive EVs in terms of range. Additionally, the Cayenne will boast a maximum charging power of 400 kilowatts, allowing for a rapid 10% to 80% recharge in just 16 minutes under optimal conditions.
The electric Cayenne will be based on the same 800-volt Premium Platform Electric architecture as the Porsche Macan electric and the Audi Q6 E-Tron. It will feature dual permanent magnet motors—one at the front and one at the rear—and a two-speed gearbox at the rear, making it an all-wheel-drive powerhouse. The base model is expected to deliver 400 horsepower, with the Cayenne S offering 600 hp and the Cayenne Turbo topping out at an impressive 805 hp.
In terms of performance, the electric Cayenne will be no slouch. Despite its hefty curb weight of around 6,000 pounds, the Turbo variant is projected to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under three seconds and reach a top speed of over 155 mph. The SUV will also come equipped with air suspension and twin-valve dampers, automatically adjusting its ride height at higher speeds and offering a dedicated Off-Road mode for adventurous driving.
Unlike the electric Macan, which is phasing out its gas-powered counterpart, the electric Cayenne will coexist with the combustion model for the foreseeable future. Porsche plans to commence deliveries of the Cayenne EV next year, coinciding with a facelift for the gas-powered Cayenne. This move demonstrates Porsche’s commitment to offering a diverse lineup that caters to a wide range of customers.
Overall, the electric Cayenne promises to be a game-changer in the EV landscape, combining Porsche’s renowned performance and luxury with the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking SUV as it prepares to hit the roads in the near future.
