Tesla has recently announced a new offer for its customers, providing a free three-month trial subscription to Sirius XM. This move is part of the company’s efforts to enhance the entertainment systems in its vehicles and offer more features to its owners. Sirius XM is a popular satellite radio service in the country, making this offer a valuable addition for Tesla owners.
The announcement was made through an email sent out by Tesla on Monday, which also included a teaser image of the updated Sirius XM user interface for Tesla vehicles. The email highlighted the new features and improvements that come with the subscription.
“With our latest over-the-air software update, enjoy a free All Access three-month trial subscription to Sirius XM, along with a completely new look and improved functionality. The update includes significant improvements to Sirius XM navigation, organization, and search features, providing access to over 150 satellite channels,” the email read.
To access the free trial, customers can simply tap the Sirius XM app from the ‘Music’ section of their in-car center touchscreen. The subscription can also be enjoyed online, on a phone, or on connected devices at home. Instructions on how to refresh audio for those who can’t hear Sirius XM channels in their cars are also provided.
Tesla has been working on optimizing its Sirius XM interface for some time now. In June, the company released the 2020.24.6.4 software update, which included enhancements to the Model S and Model X’s Sirius XM interface. The source code of this update revealed that these optimizations were also intended for release in other regions, including Canada.
While Sirius XM has been an exclusive feature for the Model S and X, Tesla’s popular Model 3 has yet to receive the service. However, there is hope that Sirius XM integration may be included in future updates for the Model 3. This would be a welcome addition for the EV community, as some Model 3 owners have had to resort to using their smartphones or third-party solutions to access the satellite radio service.
The aggressive push of Sirius XM by Tesla suggests that the company may be planning to introduce more entertainment-based apps in the future. Apps like Sirius XM, Spotify, Netflix, and YouTube may seem minor compared to features like Autopilot, but they do contribute to enhancing the overall ownership experience for Tesla owners. This move makes sense for Tesla’s upcoming vehicles like the Cybertruck and the Semi, which may be driven in areas with limited LTE connectivity.
Overall, the addition of a free three-month trial subscription to Sirius XM is a welcome development for Tesla owners, and it hints at exciting possibilities for the future of entertainment systems in Tesla vehicles.
