Tesla is making significant strides towards its Robotaxi ambitions, with plans to lease a 24-acre property in Irving, Texas to serve as a hub for its self-driving fleet. The property will house a 35,049-square-foot building for storage, dispatch, and repairs, along with parking spaces for staff and autonomous vehicles.
The site will feature 64 staff parking spaces, 17 of which will be equipped with EV chargers, as well as a separate section with 212 spaces for the autonomous vehicles. Staff on-site will be responsible for tasks such as washing cars, changing tires, updating software, and conducting minor repairs. Vehicles needing more extensive work will be brought inside the building, as the outdoor lot is not intended for long-term storage of non-operational vehicles.
While the proposal is still pending final approval, it has received positive feedback from various city departments, including traffic, transportation, fire, and inspection. This indicates a strong likelihood of the project moving forward smoothly.
