Tesla is making waves once again with the opening of a massive new Supercharger station in Manning, South Carolina, just in time for the end-of-year holiday rush. This new location, situated at 2742 Paxville Highway, boasts an impressive 60 individual stalls all equipped with solar canopies, making it one of the largest Supercharger installations on the East Coast of the U.S.
The timing of this launch is strategic, as Tesla is currently in the midst of an end-of-year Supercharger push to support holiday travel. This initiative comes on the heels of a record-breaking Thanksgiving season for Supercharger usage, underscoring the importance of expanding the network to accommodate peak travel periods. Max de Zegher, Tesla’s Director of Charging, emphasized the company’s data-driven approach to site sizing, ensuring that new installations meet demand without simply chasing market share or specific stall count goals.
The Manning Supercharger station joins Tesla’s rapidly growing global network, which recently surpassed 75,000 Superchargers worldwide. While the South Carolina location’s 60 stalls are certainly impressive, they pale in comparison to the Oasis Supercharger launched last month, currently holding the title of Tesla’s largest station worldwide with a whopping 164 stalls.
In a move towards greater inclusivity, Tesla’s Superchargers are now open to a wider range of electric vehicles, not just Tesla models. Most recently, BMW drivers have been welcomed to utilize these high-speed charging stations, further expanding the network’s reach. To ensure efficient operation at these high-traffic locations, Tesla is reportedly developing a virtual queuing feature that will help minimize wait times during busy periods, as seen in recent software updates.
As Tesla continues to expand its Supercharger network and make it more accessible to all EV drivers, the company remains at the forefront of the electric vehicle charging infrastructure landscape. The Manning Supercharger station serves as a testament to Tesla’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, setting the stage for a future where convenient and efficient charging solutions are available to all.
