Norway continues to set the standard for electric vehicle adoption, with August 2025 proving to be another landmark month in the country’s green transition. Recent data reveals that a staggering 98.4% of new car sales in Norway were electric vehicles, up from 95.7% in August 2024.
Leading the charge in sales was the Tesla Model Y, which outperformed all other EVs by a significant margin. Tesla recorded 2,450 Model Y deliveries in August, with the Volkswagen ID. Buzz coming in second at 889 units. Following closely behind were the VW ID.4, Tesla Model 3, and Skoda Enyaq.
The top 10 list also featured popular EV models such as the VW ID.3, Skoda Elroq, VW ID.7, Volvo EX30, and BMW iX1. Tesla’s strong presence in the top spots further solidifies its position as a leader in Norway’s EV market.
This recent success for the Model Y comes on the heels of surpassing the Nissan Leaf as Norway’s all-time best-selling EV. The Model Y has also been instrumental in driving record sales for Tesla in other global markets, including Turkey and South Korea.
Tesla’s Giga Berlin factory has played a crucial role in the Model Y’s success in Europe. The facility recently reached a milestone by producing its 100,000th refreshed Model Y and has begun delivering the updated Model Y Performance to customers.
As Norway sets an example with nearly all new cars being electric, it offers a glimpse into the future of EV adoption that Tesla has long advocated for. The Model Y continues to lead the way towards a sustainable transportation future.
