After years of covering the electric vehicle (EV) space as a writer for Teslarati, I finally made the decision to trade in my internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle for a brand new Tesla Model Y. It was a decision that had been brewing for a while, but various factors finally pushed me to make the switch.
My ICE vehicle, a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, had been giving me problems with sensor replacements and other minor issues. While it was a fun and affordable car, the constant repairs were becoming a hassle and costly. With the timing of the $7,500 tax credit expiring and having substantial equity in my Bronco, I knew it was time to make the jump to an EV.
I had always known that I wanted a Tesla, and after much deliberation, I settled on the Model Y due to its all-wheel drive capability, which is essential for the weather conditions in Pennsylvania. I placed my order for a Diamond Black with White Interior Model Y back in June but ended up canceling it to wait until the end of Summer. Eventually, I ordered a Black on Black Model Y from inventory, as there were no new Model Ys available within 200 miles of me.
On delivery day, the Tesla team greeted me warmly, and I was thrilled to see my new car with my name on it. It was a surreal moment, as I had only dreamt of owning a Tesla before. The delivery process was fast and efficient, and after a quick chat with the team about accessories and tinting, I was on my way.
I took my Fiancè for a ride, drove about 60 miles, and experienced both manual and Full Self-Driving modes. While I enjoyed driving the car myself, I know that FSD will come in handy in the future. Despite not having home charging currently, I have access to two Superchargers near my place and am in talks with my leasing office to install a charger soon.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my decision to switch to a Tesla Model Y. The process was smooth, and I am looking forward to exploring all the features and benefits of owning an EV in the coming months. My new ride has exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
