Tesla’s highly anticipated Model Y L has made its debut in China, showcasing a sleek design with subtle differences compared to the standard Model Y. The six-seat variant of the popular all-electric SUV was recently spotted fully uncovered on a car carrier, giving fans a first look at the vehicle without any camouflage.
The Model Y L, which was announced by Tesla last month in China, is larger than the regular Model Y, boasting a length of nearly five meters and a wheelbase of 3.04 meters. This increased size allows for a spacious six-seat configuration, catering to families in need of extra room without the hefty price tag of the larger Model X.
Production of the Model Y L is scheduled to kick off at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory later this fall. While the SUV is initially set to launch exclusively in China, there is potential for it to expand to other markets if it proves to be popular among consumers.
This recent sighting in China isn’t the first time the Model Y L has been spotted in the wild. Previous sightings in both China and Germany featured partial camouflage, but this latest sighting provides a clear look at the vehicle’s final production design.
According to filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Model Y L will offer an impressive 751 km of CLTC-rated range thanks to an 82 kWh LG NMC battery pack. The SUV will feature a dual-motor setup with 142 kW in the front and 198 kW in the rear for optimal power delivery.
In addition to the Model Y L, Tesla also unveiled the new Model 3+ in China, boasting a record-breaking 830 km of CLTC-rated range. With these new models, Tesla aims to strengthen its presence in the Chinese EV market, which is the largest in the world. The company is gearing up for a busy second half of 2025 as it continues to innovate and expand its electric vehicle lineup.
