The 2025 Kia EV9 is undergoing another recall due to potential issues with faulty rear gear drive units that could result in a loss of propulsion.
This recall affects a limited number of 342 three-row electric SUVs. The problem stems from rear gear drive units that may contain motor shafts that were improperly welded by a supplier during assembly. As a result, the shafts can become damaged, affecting the transfer of power from the motor to the wheels and leading to reduced acceleration and drive power.

If this issue occurs, drivers may experience abnormal driveline noise and receive a “Check AWD/4WD” warning message on the dashboard, according to recall documents.
Kia estimates that only 4% of the affected vehicles, approximately 14 EV9s, have this defect, which has not been identified in front drive units. The recall specifically targets dual-motor all-wheel drive models, excluding single-motor rear-wheel drive versions. The affected vehicles were part of the limited number of Georgia-made EV9s in 2024.

The solution involves the replacement of the rear gear drive unit, with dealers carrying out the necessary repairs free of charge. Kia is set to commence sending owner notification letters on March 7. For more details, owners can contact Kia’s customer service at 800-333-4542 or visit the automaker’s recall website. The recall reference number is SC337.
The EV9 was highly praised upon its launch in the 2024 model year. While there were minimal changes for the 2025 model, some lingering issues remain unresolved. The 2025 EV9, as well as certain 2024 models, were previously recalled for missing seat bolts and malfunctioning digital instrument clusters.
