Tesla’s Cybercab has been making its way around Europe, and our colleagues at Motor1 Italy had the chance to experience it firsthand. The Cybercab, Elon Musk’s new self-driving vehicle, has been generating a lot of buzz, and we were eager to see what it was like inside.
Upon opening the doors, which lift upward in a butterfly opening style, we were immediately struck by the minimalist and practical design of the interior. The Cybercab is designed for robotaxi service, with a clear focus on essentiality. The absence of a steering wheel or pedals is a bold statement of the vehicle’s autonomous capabilities.
The dashboard features a large central screen that will likely serve as the hub for navigation, entertainment, and other functions. The seats, upholstered in leatherette, resemble lounge chairs more than traditional car seats. They are wide, flat-backed, and separated by a central armrest with two cup holders underneath. The intentional simplicity of the interior not only keeps costs down but also allows for easy cleaning and sanitization between rides.
The Cybercab only has two seats, as it is intended to carry one or two passengers on urban routes. The lack of contoured sides on the seats is a testament to the vehicle’s focus on urban driving, where sideways acceleration is minimal.
For those interested in seeing the Cybercab in person, the vehicle will be on display in various European cities from November 20 to December 31. However, viewing will be limited to the exterior with the doors closed. The tour dates include London, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Oslo, and Amsterdam.
Overall, the Cybercab offers a glimpse into the future of autonomous transportation, with a practical and user-friendly interior design. The vehicle’s focus on essentiality and cleanliness aligns with the growing demand for sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions. If you’re in one of the tour cities, be sure to check out the Cybercab and experience the future of transportation firsthand.
