Tesla’s Cybertruck has recently implemented a new “Superhorn” system, replacing the traditional trumpet-style horn found in earlier models. This update was sent out as an in-app option in the Tesla mobile app and is a change that cannot be reversed. The reason behind this update has now been revealed by Wes Morrill, Tesla’s Cybertruck Lead Engineer.
According to Morrill, the evolution of the vehicle’s horn and sound system was necessary to better align with the Cybertruck’s futuristic design and functionality. The old trumpet horn, located in the front bumper, has been replaced by the new Superhorn. This powerful speaker is now situated in the front fascia near the passenger-side wheel and supports functions like Tesla’s Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) and the Boombox feature, which is available when the vehicle is parked.
Additionally, a second PWS speaker has been installed near the driver-side rear wheel for pedestrian alerts and Boombox sounds. The approval to implement the Superhorn resulted in newer Cybertrucks now emitting a distinct “BRRTTT” sound instead of the traditional “MEEEP.” As a result, the older trumpet horn has been phased out and is no longer included in newer models.
For earlier Cybertrucks produced before the Superhorn approval, they are equipped with both the traditional trumpet horn and the Superhorn. However, Tesla has stated that downgrading to the previous horn setup is unlikely, as the older horn operates independently and does not communicate with the vehicle’s controller.
Visually, the Superhorn resembles a speaker and its integration into the Cybertruck showcases Tesla’s commitment to innovating vehicle functionality and design. The decision to include both the old horn and speaker in the Cybertruck has proven to be a successful move, demonstrating Tesla’s foresight in future-proofing their vehicles.
Overall, the introduction of the Superhorn in the Cybertruck represents Tesla’s dedication to continuously improving and enhancing their vehicles, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of innovation in the automotive industry.
