Tesla recently unveiled an updated Model 3 Performance as part of the refreshed Model 3 lineup, known as Highland. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive Model 3 Performance boasts an impressive 510 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 163 mph. With an estimated range of 296 miles, the Model 3 Performance falls slightly short of the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant, which offers a range of 341 miles.
The updated Model 3 Performance features fourth-generation drive units that deliver more consistent performance, with a 22% increase in continuous power output, a 32% increase in peak power output, and a 16% increase in peak torque. Tesla also claims that energy consumption is lower than the previous Model 3 Performance.
In terms of handling, the Model 3 Performance now comes equipped with adaptive damping and 20-inch forged wheels paired with Pirelli P Zero 4 tires. Tesla has enhanced the Track Mode by integrating suspension controls, powertrain cooling controls, and vehicle dynamics controller into a single, unified system.
Visually, the Model 3 Performance showcases similar styling to other refreshed Model 3 variants, boasting a 5% reduction in drag, a 36% reduction in lift, and a 55% improvement in front/rear lift balance compared to its predecessor. Inside, Performance models feature new sport seats in addition to the interior changes seen across the lineup, such as a larger horizontal touchscreen and the elimination of control stalks.
The Model 3 Performance comes with a starting price of $52,990 before destination fees, positioning it as the most expensive Model 3 variant. The Long Range All-Wheel Drive starts at $47,740, while the base Rear-Wheel Drive model starts at $38,990. Interested buyers can place their orders for the Model 3 Performance now, and it is expected that the Tesla Model Y crossover will receive similar updates in the near future.
Overall, the updated Model 3 Performance offers improved performance, handling, and styling enhancements that make it a compelling option for those in the market for a high-performance electric vehicle.
