Tesla’s highly anticipated Model Y trim, the long-wheelbase six-seater Model Y L, is now available for order in eight new Asian markets. These markets include Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. This expansion marks a significant milestone for the Model Y L, which was first introduced in China in August 2025.
In some of these Asian markets, such as Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, the Model Y L had already been previewed at motor shows, generating excitement among fans who were eagerly awaiting its official launch. Local pricing for the Model Y L varies based on taxes, incentives, and import duties. For example, Malaysia estimates the price to be RM260,000 with deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2026, while Singapore lists the price at S$248,999, including COE. The competitive pricing of the Model Y L positions it favorably against traditional three-row SUVs in these markets.
The introduction of the Model Y L in these Asian markets aligns with the region’s increasing adoption of electric vehicles, particularly among family buyers looking for a blend of practicality, performance, and luxury. Tesla’s move to offer the Model Y L in Asia also positions the company against local competitors that are starting to offer affordable three-row options.
Interestingly, the Model Y L remains unavailable in the U.S. market, where there has been high demand for a stretched Model Y variant. While Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted at the development of a new vehicle for the U.S. market, the dimensions and features of the Model Y L cater specifically to the needs of many American families.
The standout features of the Model Y L include its stretched dimensions, with a length of 4,976 mm and a wheelbase of 3,040 mm, making it 179 mm longer than the standard Model Y. The vehicle’s height also increases slightly, creating a spacious three-row layout with individual captain’s chairs in the second row for easier access to the third row. With a maximum cargo capacity of 2,539 liters with seats folded, the Model Y L offers versatility for families and urban dwellers alike.
In terms of performance, the Model Y L does not disappoint. Equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive, the vehicle can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 5.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 km/h. It boasts an impressive WLTP-rated range of up to 681 km, supported by a battery pack ranging from 88-97 kWh (depending on the market) and 250 kW DC fast charging capabilities.
With deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2026 and strong early interest from consumers mirroring the success of the Model Y L in China, Tesla’s expansion into these dynamic Asian markets is poised to make the Model Y L a bestseller. This move underscores Tesla’s commitment to customizing its vehicles to meet regional demands while promoting sustainable mobility across Asia.
