The Polestar 2 electric fastback is making a comeback in North America, specifically in Canada, after a hiatus of two years. The Chinese-built EV was discontinued in the United States last year due to Ottawa’s 100% surtax on electrified vehicles built in China. However, with the recent change in regulations, Canadians can now order the Polestar 2 on the automaker’s official website, with the first imports expected in September.
The decision to reintroduce the Polestar 2 in Canada comes after the country replaced the 100% tariff on Chinese-built electrified cars with an annual 49,000-vehicle quota. This change has opened doors for several Chinese car brands to establish a presence in North America for the first time. It has also allowed some companies to significantly reduce prices on their models, making them more accessible to consumers.
Hugues Bissonnette, head of Polestar Canada, expressed excitement about the return of the Polestar 2, citing the high demand from customers with over 7,300 Polestar 2s already on Canadian roads. The 2027 Polestar 2 in Canada starts from $72,200 Canadian and is only available in the Long Range Dual Motor configuration, featuring an 82-kilowatt-hour battery pack and two electric motors delivering a combined 421 horsepower. The estimated range is 277 miles, and the battery can be recharged from a DC fast charger at up to 205 kilowatts, with a 10-to-80% top-up taking 28 minutes. Plug & Charge is also supported.
In addition to the Polestar 2, Polestar also offers the American-made Polestar 3 flagship EV and the Polestar 4 crossover in Canada. The return of the Polestar 2 is seen as a temporary solution for the company’s dealers in Canada, as the second generation of the EV is set to debut next year.
Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller emphasized the importance of the Polestar 2 as the foundation of the brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and a dedicated community of customers. He also expressed excitement about bringing the next generation of the iconic car to the market by the start of next year. With the Polestar 2 making a comeback in Canada, it is clear that Polestar is committed to expanding its presence in the North American market and offering customers innovative and sustainable electric vehicles. The world is constantly changing, and with these changes come new challenges and opportunities. One of the most significant changes in recent years has been the rise of technology and its impact on our daily lives. From the way we communicate to the way we work, technology has revolutionized the way we live.
One of the most notable changes brought about by technology is the way we communicate. With the advent of social media and messaging apps, we can now connect with people from all over the world in an instant. This has not only made it easier to stay in touch with friends and family, but it has also revolutionized the way we do business. Companies can now reach a global audience with the click of a button, opening up new markets and opportunities for growth.
Another significant change brought about by technology is the way we work. With the rise of remote work and digital nomadism, more and more people are able to work from anywhere in the world. This has not only increased flexibility and freedom for workers, but it has also opened up new opportunities for companies to tap into a global talent pool. This shift towards remote work has also had a positive impact on the environment, as fewer people are commuting to work, reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion.
In addition to changing the way we communicate and work, technology has also revolutionized the way we access information. With the rise of the internet, we now have a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips. From online courses to virtual libraries, we can now learn about any topic that interests us from the comfort of our own home. This has democratized education and made it more accessible to people all over the world.
However, with these opportunities also come challenges. The rise of technology has raised concerns about privacy and security, as our personal data is increasingly being collected and shared online. There are also concerns about the impact of technology on jobs, as automation and artificial intelligence threaten to replace human workers in some industries.
Overall, the rise of technology has brought about significant changes in the way we live and work. While it has opened up new opportunities and made our lives more convenient, it has also raised important questions about privacy, security, and the future of work. As we navigate this new digital landscape, it is important to stay informed and adapt to these changes in order to thrive in the increasingly tech-driven world.
