Tesla Introduces New MID-Certified Wall Connector for Business Vehicle Charging
Tesla has unveiled a specialized version of its renowned Wall Connector in the Netherlands, addressing a key issue in the EV market – charging company vehicles at home.
Priced at €570 ($672 USD), the new charger closely resembles the standard model but includes a crucial component: a MID-certified meter.
Targeting employers, this innovative feature allows for accurate tracking and reimbursement of employees’ home charging expenses for company-provided Teslas. Previously, the reimbursement process was manual, requiring employees to submit charging records.
Solving Reimbursement Challenges
In many European countries, company cars are a common employment benefit. However, reimbursing employees for home charging costs posed a challenge. Unlike refueling a gas or diesel vehicle, home charging required a different approach.
Past reimbursement methods were often inaccurate, relying on monthly stipends or manual calculations. With Tesla’s new Wall Connector, the MID-certified meter ensures precise measurement of energy consumption, simplifying the reimbursement process for both employers and employees.
Understanding MID-Certification
The MID certification guarantees the accuracy and reliability of measuring devices used for trade or legal purposes, similar to a gas pump or electric meter. With this certification, the Wall Connector provides a verifiable record of energy consumption, ensuring fair compensation for employees.
While currently available in the Netherlands, Tesla’s new Wall Connector is expected to expand to other European countries soon. This innovative solution highlights Tesla’s commitment to addressing challenges in the business sector, complementing its focus on consumer markets.
