Stellantis, the automotive giant formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group, has recently announced a new venture in the electric vehicle (EV) market. The company confirmed that it will begin assembling Leapmotor EVs at its plant near Zaragoza in Spain. In Europe, Stellantis has seen success with its electric models under local brands like Opel and Peugeot. However, the company’s partnership with Leapmotor International, a joint venture with Chinese automaker Leapmotor, could give it a competitive edge in the European EV market. Leapmotor has been selling several models in recent months, including the T03 city EV, which briefly saw production in Europe to avoid import tariffs.
The latest announcement confirms that the Leapmotor B10, a compact electric SUV, will be produced at Stellantis’ Spanish plant near Zaragoza. The B10 will be assembled alongside models like the Opel Corsa, Peugeot 208, and Lancia Ypsilon, with three more Leapmotor EVs set to follow. To support local production, a new company called Lieder Automotive has been established to supply the factory with European-made components.
The Leapmotor B10, currently imported from China, is priced at €29,990 ($34,800) in Europe. It features a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 218 horsepower, with two battery options offering ranges of 224 to 270 miles on a single charge. Local production is expected to shield Stellantis from import tariffs on Chinese EVs, although the impact on pricing remains uncertain.
