Tesla has officially entered the Start of Production phase for its highly anticipated Cybercab, with the first finished units making their debut at Giga Texas. These production vehicles showcase a stunning glossy gold finish, a departure from the matte-wrapped engineering prototypes initially unveiled.
The milestone was shared by @TechOperator, who posted photos of the vehicle identified as VIN Zero during a tour at Giga Texas. This particular car represents the inaugural unit built on the assembly line in Austin. Aerial photographer Joe Tegtmeyer also captured images of several glossy units in the outbound lot, highlighting the vibrant metallic surface when illuminated by the Texas sunlight.
Although the finish is highly reflective, Tegtmeyer noted that these vehicles do not use traditional paint. This suggests that Tesla may be utilizing a specialized coating or unique material process to achieve the glossy gold appearance, similar to the unconventional manufacturing approach used for the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body.
Upon closer inspection of these production-ready models, several key design elements have been revealed. A dedicated charging port is now visible on the left side of the rear bumper, and the fit and finish of the body panels appear more refined than earlier test mules, indicating rapid progress on the manufacturing line.
As Tesla ramps up production at Giga Texas, the focus will shift towards software and regulatory requirements for its autonomous ride-hailing network. The presence of VIN Zero and other glossy units in the outbound lot confirms that the Cybercab is transitioning from a concept to a functional part of the Tesla fleet.
