Lucid Motors is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated midsize electric crossover in late 2025 or early 2026. The company’s interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, provided an update on the development of the future model during an earnings call on Tuesday, hinting at the exciting designs that customers can expect to see.
Winterhoff expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming vehicles, stating, “I was just down in the design studio, and I can tell you the vehicles look amazing. I think customers are going to love them, and I can’t wait to show them to you.” He revealed that Lucid plans to debut the new models later this year or early next year.
Known as “Project Midsize,” Lucid’s next venture is set to begin production in late 2026. The company has confirmed that the new platform will serve as the foundation for at least three distinct vehicles, with the possibility of unveiling more than one within the next year. While teaser images have been released, the exact details of the midsize crossover remain shrouded in mystery.
Winterhoff also provided insights into the development progress of the midsize variants, mentioning that two of them have completed the advanced engineering phase and will now enter the development and industrialization phase. He highlighted the development of Lucid’s lower-cost “Atlas” drive unit, which will power the midsize vehicles.
The midsize family of vehicles is expected to have a broader appeal and a lower price point compared to Lucid’s existing lineup. While the Air sedan starts at around $70,000 and the Gravity SUV’s initial variant begins at $95,000, the upcoming midsize crossover is projected to cost just under $50,000. This more affordable option aims to attract customers who have been eyeing Lucid’s high-tech vehicles but couldn’t justify the price tag.
The success of these midsize models is crucial for Lucid Motors, as the company has been operating at a loss, with significant losses reported in 2024. Achieving profitability in the competitive electric vehicle market requires scale, and a mainstream electric crossover could be the key to turning the tide for Lucid, much like the impact of Tesla’s Model Y.
As Lucid prepares to unveil its midsize electric crossover, the automotive industry eagerly awaits to see if these new models will capture the hearts of consumers and drive the company towards a sustainable future in the EV market.
