Tesla CEO Elon Musk Plans Busy Month with Robotaxi Launch and Self-Delivering Teslas
In June, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is gearing up for an eventful month with plans to launch the highly anticipated Robotaxi platform in Austin, Texas. Additionally, Musk has revealed that Teslas will soon be self-delivering to customers, eliminating the need for trips to the showroom for delivery.
For some time, Musk has been teasing the idea that Tesla vehicles would have the capability to drive to customers without a driver present in the car. Initially, it was speculated that this service would be limited to areas close to Tesla’s U.S. factories, such as the Greater Austin, Texas, area and possibly the Bay Area in San Francisco where the Fremont Factory is located.
Recent confirmation that Tesla has been conducting driverless Robotaxi rides in Austin has sparked excitement among fans of the company. Musk took to Twitter to announce that Teslas will soon be able to self-deliver to customers, with the first self-delivery scheduled for next month.
Musk’s tweet read: “For the past several days, Tesla has been testing self-driving Model Y cars (no one in driver’s seat) on Austin public streets with no incidents. A month ahead of schedule. Next month, first self-delivery from factory to customer.” This development is sure to streamline the vehicle delivery process and make purchasing a Tesla even more convenient.
While the focus has largely been on the upcoming Robotaxi platform launch, Tesla’s approach to self-driving technology sets it apart from competitors. The company has chosen to rely solely on cameras for its self-driving capabilities, taking a more cautious approach to the rollout of driverless software.
Although Full Self-Driving currently leads the pack in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, it is not fully autonomous. However, Tesla is working towards achieving full autonomy, which will not only benefit the Robotaxi fleet but also revolutionize the vehicle delivery process for customers.
The Robotaxi platform is set to launch in Austin on June 12, with approximately 10 Model Y SUVs initially hitting the streets. Tesla plans to expand the fleet as safety is proven, prioritizing the well-being of passengers and pedestrians.
Musk also hinted at the possibility of flying to Austin and hailing a Robotaxi by the end of June, further showcasing Tesla’s innovative approach to transportation.
