After a conversation with the New York Post, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles revealed that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is no longer working from the West Wing. Instead, Musk is now operating as a remote worker for DOGE.
Remote Work Arrangement
According to Wiles, she still maintains communication with Musk, albeit through phone conversations as he works remotely. Despite the change in location, Wiles emphasized that Musk’s contributions continue to have a significant impact. She mentioned, “Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect.” Wiles reassured that Musk’s team will remain involved in the ongoing work.
“He’s not completely disengaged. While he may not be physically present as often as before, the individuals working on these initiatives are dedicated and attentive to the details. He may be taking a step back, but he is not abandoning the projects, and neither are his team members,” stated Wiles.
Focus on Tesla
Musk, who was frequently seen at the White House during the initial 100 days of the Trump administration, announced during the Q1 2025 Tesla earnings call that he would be reducing his involvement with DOGE and dedicating more time to Tesla. Although Musk acknowledged the importance of DOGE’s work, he expressed his intention to prioritize his commitments at Tesla moving forward.
“I anticipate allocating more of my time to Tesla starting next month, while continuing to dedicate a day or two per week to government matters if the President deems it beneficial. Now that the Department of Government Efficiency has been established, my focus will shift towards Tesla,” Musk explained.
The transition to remote work for Elon Musk signifies a shift in his priorities, emphasizing his commitment to furthering Tesla’s objectives. Despite the change in his physical presence, Musk’s influence and contributions remain integral to the projects he is involved in.
