The highly anticipated Tesla Cybertruck pickup truck may soon come in a special performance-oriented version, offering even more power and torque. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently hinted at the existence of this variant after testing it out himself.
In a comment on Twitter, Musk mentioned driving the “performance Cybertruck” and described it as “next-level” and “kicking ass.” This revelation came in response to a discussion about a potential Model 3 Plaid version, which Musk denied but then pivoted to talk about the Cybertruck’s performance variant.
Speculation arose that Musk’s test drive of the performance Cybertruck may have been linked to recent acceleration tests conducted at Tesla’s test track in Fremont, California. This suggests that both the development team and Musk were evaluating the prototype in the days leading up to his comment.
Tesla has a history of offering performance versions across its lineup, such as the Model S/Model X Plaid and the Model 3/Model Y Performance. The potential addition of a Performance version to the Cybertruck lineup could set the bar even higher, possibly aiming to match or surpass the acceleration capabilities of competitors like the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.
While details on the performance Cybertruck are scarce, Tesla’s website hints at impressive numbers for the standard versions, including a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, payload capacity of 3,500 pounds, range of up to 500 miles, and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds.
Production of the Tesla Cybertruck is slated to begin later this year in Texas, with initial availability expected to be limited. Mass production is anticipated to ramp up in 2024 to meet growing demand.
As Tesla continues to innovate and expand its electric vehicle offerings, the performance Cybertruck could be a game-changer in the pickup truck market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development from Tesla.
