Electric cars are becoming more common on the roads of Sweden, but the speed at which they are sold varies greatly. According to new data from Blocket, as reported by CarUp, it has been revealed that while the average used electric vehicle takes longer to sell compared to a diesel car, the Tesla Model Y is defying this trend in a remarkable way.
The Tesla Model Y, a popular SUV, is selling on average in just nine days, faster than any diesel model currently on the market. Blocket’s data shows that there are nearly 18,500 used electric vehicles listed in Sweden. On average, the 20 most popular electric cars take around 22 days to sell, which is approximately six days longer than diesel vehicles. However, some models stand out with significantly different selling timeframes. For example, the Mini Cooper Electric and Volkswagen ID.3 sell in about 11 days, while the Kia EV6 takes around 39 days to find a buyer.
The success of the Tesla Model Y can be attributed to its appealing pricing in the second-hand market and its overall popularity. Marcin Stepman, a car expert at Blocket, mentioned that the demand for the Model Y is being driven by its attractive prices. Despite recent reports of rising used Tesla prices in Sweden, the Model Y remains a sought-after option. In fact, it is possible to purchase two used Model Y Long Range vehicles with low mileage for the price of a new one.
On the other hand, other electric vehicles face longer listing periods before being sold. Models like the Kia EV6, BMW iX3, and Nissan Leaf often spend over a month on listings before finding buyers. The Volvo C40 and Cupra Born typically sell within 24–26 days, while the Citroën e-C4 and Tesla Model 3 have an average selling time of around 20 days.
The data underscores the varying levels of demand for different electric vehicle models among used car buyers. While interest in electric vehicles is on the rise, the demand is not evenly spread across all models. The performance of the Tesla Model Y highlights how brand strength and resale pricing can accelerate sales, while less popular models face longer listing periods in the used car market.
