Tesla has officially bid farewell to the light grey headliner in the North American Model Y, opting for a sleek dark cabin finish instead. The interior overhaul also includes an upgraded, higher-resolution touchscreen that now comes standard on every Model Y sold in Canada and the U.S.
The announcement of these changes was made by Tesla through its official Tesla North America account. The company confirmed that these upgrades are no longer exclusive to the pricier trims, meaning even the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version will now feature the same premium interior elements as the higher-end models.
Previously, the dark ceiling fabric and refreshed hardware were only available on the Premium and Performance trims, leaving a gap in the lineup. Many potential buyers were left wondering if the base model would continue to ship with the older components. With this update, Tesla has eliminated those discrepancies and unified the interior look across all Model Y variants.
While changing the roof cloth color may seem like a minor aesthetic adjustment, it addresses a common desire among owners for a more upscale and cozy cabin ambiance. The darker ceiling complements Tesla’s clean, minimalist interior design philosophy.
The most noticeable improvement in the updated Model Y is the larger 16-inch display, replacing the previous 15.4-inch screen. Not only is the new panel bigger, but it also boasts Quad HD (QHD) resolution, resulting in sharper visuals and enhanced clarity for navigation, apps, and climate controls.
Now that the Model Y refresh has been fully implemented, attention turns to whether the smaller Model 3 sedan will receive a similar premium treatment. Recent regulatory filings in China suggest that the Model 3 may also undergo a transition to a darker headliner in the near future.
