The automotive industry is rapidly evolving, with electric vehicles becoming more popular than ever before. Alfa Romeo, the iconic Italian car manufacturer, is not one to be left behind in this trend. The next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio is currently undergoing testing in Sweden, and from the looks of it, it seems to be an all-electric vehicle.
The prototype of the new Stelvio is heavily camouflaged, but there are some key details that suggest it is an EV. One of the most obvious indicators is the lack of exhaust pipes at the rear of the vehicle. Additionally, the grille is fully closed off, hinting at an electric powertrain under the hood. The presence of an orange high-voltage sticker on the windshield further solidifies the speculation that this is indeed an electric vehicle.
Alfa Romeo is making significant changes with the next-generation Stelvio and Giulia models. The company is moving away from the $2 billion Giorgio platform and instead opting for the STLA Large platform developed by parent company Stellantis. This new platform will allow for both combustion and pure electric powertrains, giving customers more options to choose from.
The teaser photos released by Alfa Romeo showcase a sleek and modern design for the new Stelvio. The prototype features aerodynamic wheels and a front fascia that is almost completely closed off for improved airflow. The overall design seems to prioritize aerodynamics, which is crucial for maximizing the range of an electric vehicle.
Despite some controversial design elements like the split headlight design, the new Stelvio is shaping up to be a promising addition to Alfa Romeo’s lineup. The vehicle is expected to retain its rear-wheel-drive nature, offering a dynamic driving experience that fans of the brand have come to love.
Powered by the STLA Large platform, the new Stelvio will be related to other Stellantis models like the Jeep Wagoneer S and the Dodge Charger Daytona EV. This platform supports various powertrains, including plug-in hybrids, and can accommodate battery packs up to 118 kilowatt-hours.
The full unveiling of the next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio is expected later this year, with sales set to begin in 2026. Alongside the Stelvio, the Giulia will also be introduced with a new design that deviates from the traditional sedan format. With these new models, Alfa Romeo is gearing up to compete in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
