Tesla’s most affordable electric vehicle, the 2026 Tesla Model 3 Standard RWD, has once again proven its capabilities by exceeding expectations in a recent real-world range test conducted by Edmunds. The Model 3 Standard managed to drive an impressive 339 miles on a single charge, surpassing its EPA-estimated range and even outperforming Tesla’s newer Model Y Standard.
The Model 3 Standard is designed to offer maximum value while sacrificing some luxury features. However, one area where it does not compromise is range. The EPA rates the Model 3 Standard at 321 miles, but Edmunds’ testing revealed that it exceeded this figure by 18 miles, showcasing a 5.6% improvement. This makes it one of the top performers relative to its EPA estimate among recent Model 3 variants.
Although the Model 3 Standard falls short of the 2021 Model 3 Long Range, which previously achieved 345 miles in Edmunds’ testing, its performance is still noteworthy, especially considering its sub-$40,000 price point. Additionally, the Model 3 Standard outperformed the Model Y Standard, which had previously stunned Edmunds with its impressive real-world range results.
Efficiency played a significant role in the Model 3 Standard’s success. Edmunds measured the vehicle at 23 kWh per 100 miles, slightly better than its EPA efficiency rating. This places it in the same league as more expensive electric vehicles, although some models like Mercedes’ CLA EV still offer greater overall range.
In terms of charging performance, the Model 3 Standard demonstrated solid results in Edmunds’ testing. It averaged 89 kW during charging, equating to approximately 387 miles of range added per hour. While this may be slower than higher-end Model 3 variants, it remains competitive for an entry-level EV and is comparable to other models such as the Nissan Leaf and Volvo EX30.
Tesla introduced the Model 3 Standard in the U.S. in October, with deliveries commencing in early November, followed by a rollout in Europe. Based on its impressive real-world range results, the Model 3 Standard is establishing itself as a top contender in the EV market, offering exceptional range without the premium price tag.
