Tesla continues to prioritize safety with the expansion of its Child Left Alone Detection feature, which is now being rolled out to some Model Y owners in the UK through software update 2025.32.6. This innovative safety tool, first introduced in update 2025.14.12 in May, utilizes Tesla’s Cabin Radar technology to detect subtle movements such as breathing, even if a child is covered by blankets or sitting in a car seat. If an unattended child is detected, the vehicle will activate its exterior lights, sound an alert tone, and send a notification to the Tesla mobile app. These warnings will continue at regular intervals until someone returns to the car. It is important to note that all cabin data is processed locally and not transmitted to Tesla.
According to reports from Not a Tesla App, the Child Left Alone Detection feature is now being rolled out to “legacy” Model Y vehicles, with confirmation that it is already active on some vehicles in the UK. The feature comes enabled by default, but owners have the option to disable it by accessing the settings menu and navigating to Controls > Safety > Child Left Alone Detection.
This safety measure is made possible by the in-cabin radar technology, which is available in various Tesla vehicles, including the Model Y (2022 and newer), Model 3 (2024 and newer), Cybertruck, and Model S and Model X (2021 and newer).
The expansion of the Child Left Alone Detection feature follows a series of recent updates in Tesla’s 2025.32 software branch. Previous releases addressed issues such as Bluetooth audio lag on AMD-based infotainment units and compatibility problems with the Start FSD from Park feature and the “PIN to Drive” security setting.
With the continued rollout of the Child Left Alone Detection feature to more vehicles, Tesla is reinforcing its commitment to preventing child heatstroke fatalities in parked cars. This tragic occurrence still claims the lives of dozens of young children in North America each year. Tesla’s dedication to safety and innovation is evident in this latest feature, which aims to provide peace of mind to parents and caregivers everywhere.
