Skoda has recently unveiled a new teaser for its upcoming Vision O electric wagon concept. This concept gives us a glimpse of an electric Octavia wagon that will be built on a new Volkswagen EV architecture. The official debut of the Vision O is set for September 8 at IAA 2025 in Germany.
The European market is currently buzzing with excitement over Skoda’s Elroq crossover, which has been a hit among electric vehicle enthusiasts. However, the anticipation for an electric Octavia wagon is even higher due to the popularity of the Octavia model in Europe. The combination of the Octavia’s success, Skoda’s “Simply Clever” touches, and the increasing demand for electric vehicles in Europe is expected to make the electric Octavia a big hit.
The Vision O teaser showcases a side profile of the vehicle, revealing a design that is not too different from what was expected. The concept features a more slanted fastback-style rear glass, giving it a slightly sportier look compared to the current combustion model. The latest teaser provides a front three-quarter perspective of the vehicle, highlighting its raised ground clearance. This design element could indicate that the concept is previewing a high-riding Scout variant of the Octavia EV or aiming to attract crossover enthusiasts.
The Vision O boasts a high beltline and a small greenhouse, giving it the appearance of a large luxury car with a longitudinally mounted engine. This unique design not only sets it apart but also allows for ample room in the front trunk, a feature not currently available in Skoda’s EV lineup. The electric Octavia will be built on the SSP platform, the successor to the MEB platform, offering improvements and cost reductions of around 20%.
Skoda’s design boss, Oliver Stefani, emphasizes the brand’s commitment to innovation and pushing boundaries with the Vision O concept. The design language of “Modern Solid” is enhanced with emotional appeal and refined brand identity, showcasing simplicity and practicality for everyday use. While the Vision O may feature rear-hinged rear doors in teaser videos, this detail may not make it to production models.
The electric Octavia is expected to go into production around 2027 and will be one of the first VW Group vehicles built on the SSP platform. It will be available alongside the combustion Octavia until the end of the decade. With Skoda’s dedication to design innovation and practicality, the electric Octavia is poised to make a significant impact on the European market.
