Lucid Motors has been facing challenges with the production of its Gravity SUV, with deliveries only in the three-digit range due to supply chain constraints. The company began production of the vehicle in early December 2024, but has been struggling to meet its targets.
Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff acknowledged that Lucid is not where it wants to be with Gravity production, but assured that the company is working hard to improve the situation in the second half of the year. A recent update corrected earlier reports that Lucid had only sold nine Gravity SUVs through June, with the actual number being much higher.
Lucid had high hopes for the Gravity SUV as a way to tap into the SUV market and increase its relevance. However, the ramp-up has been slower than expected, with sales currently in the three-digit range. Supply chain constraints, including issues with Chinese-sourced rare earth magnets, have contributed to the production challenges.
Despite the setbacks, Lucid remains optimistic about increasing production in the coming months. Winterhoff expressed confidence that the company will overcome the supply chain bottlenecks and ramp up Gravity production. The original production target for 2025 was 20,000 units, but this has been revised down to between 18,000 and 20,000 units.
Winterhoff emphasized that the team has been working hard to address the bottlenecks in the supply chain and improve manufacturing efficiency. With more suppliers delivering necessary components and improvements in manufacturing processes, Lucid is hopeful for a more successful second half of the year.
The company’s focus remains on increasing production of the Gravity SUV and meeting its revised targets. With the Lucid Air sedan performing well in the market, there is room for the Gravity to make a significant impact if production challenges can be overcome.
Overall, Lucid Motors is determined to make the Gravity SUV a success and is working tirelessly to address the production issues. The company is confident that it will see improvements in the coming months and increase the number of Gravity SUVs on the road.
