Tesla Grok App: An Inside Look at Its Interface and Features
The highly anticipated Grok conversational AI assistant for Tesla vehicles is inching closer to its official release. Recent findings by Tesla hacker Greentheonly have unveiled that a fully functional version of Grok is already embedded in the latest firmware builds, just waiting for Tesla to activate it.
While the feature is currently dormant and awaiting a server-side switch, it could potentially be enabled for vehicles running update 2025.20 and newer. These discoveries shed more light on the details previously shared by Green about the functionality of Grok.
Grok’s System Requirements
Based on Green’s analysis of the recent software builds, Grok’s foundation was established with update 2025.14, with additional features and capabilities introduced in 2025.20. The assistant will be compatible with vehicles equipped with a Ryzen-based infotainment computer, while those with the older Intel Atom processor may not be supported initially. It’s worth noting that Grok’s processing is not handled within the vehicle’s Autopilot hardware.
Furthermore, Grok will necessitate premium connectivity or a Wi-Fi connection in the vehicle. While the exact subscription model for Grok remains unclear, users will be required to sign into their Grok account, hinting at the possibility of a premium version.
User Experience with Grok
Green has also unveiled the user interface of Grok for the first time. The interface resembles the Grok app on mobile devices, featuring a dark UI that remains consistent even in light mode. Users can interact with Grok through a modal display, similar to voice commands, with options for different types of assistants and voices.
Grok users can select from a variety of voices, each with its own personality traits. The interface includes settings for NSFW mode and Kids Mode, catering to different user preferences and scenarios.
Activation and Functionality of Grok
Users can activate Grok by pressing a designated button, which will enable the assistant for the duration of the conversation. While a wake word feature is not currently implemented, there are references to it in the code, suggesting a potential future addition.
Enhancing the User Experience
One of the key benefits of Grok’s integration is its ability to replace the existing voice command system with a more intuitive and conversational approach. Grok’s natural language processing capabilities enable seamless interactions and a more user-friendly experience for Tesla drivers.
Multi-Language Support and Release Date
Grok is expected to launch with multi-language support, including English and Chinese, with potential for additional languages. While the development of Grok in vehicles seems to be nearing completion, further server-side adjustments may be required for a seamless integration. The official launch of Grok could coincide with the upcoming Tesla update, anticipated to be update 2025.24.
