Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a teaser image of its upcoming bespoke electric fastback, set to rival the Porsche Taycan in the electric sports sedan segment. The full reveal of the four-door AMG fastback is scheduled for July, promising both striking design and high-performance capabilities.
The teaser image provides a glimpse of the car’s sleek side profile, showcasing a low and pointy nose reminiscent of a Porsche 911. The greenhouse tapers towards the rear, leading to a short decklid with a potential spoiler for added aerodynamics. Unlike the Porsche Taycan, the AMG fastback will feature a liftback trunk opening, combining practicality with a sporty aesthetic.
Performance-wise, the electric AMG fastback is expected to pack a punch with around 1,000 horsepower in its most potent configuration. The car will be equipped with electric motors supplied by Yasa, each producing 480 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. If Mercedes opts for a quad-motor setup, the fastback could potentially deliver almost 2,000 horsepower and over 2,300 lb-ft of torque, setting a new benchmark in the segment.
The timing of the AMG electric fastback’s release coincides with Mercedes’ shift towards electrification, phasing out its current lineup of EQ-badged EVs in favor of electric versions of regular models. The bespoke AMG EV is part of this strategy, featuring the brand’s first dedicated electric vehicle architecture known as AMG.EA. This unique platform will also underpin a forthcoming electric AMG SUV, offering similar performance and technology in a taller package.
With the promise of cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, and a striking design, the Mercedes-AMG electric fastback is poised to make a significant impact in the electric sports sedan market. Stay tuned for the full reveal in July as Mercedes-AMG sets out to redefine the boundaries of electric performance vehicles.
