Genesis EV owners in the U.S. can now take advantage of Tesla’s vast network of Superchargers, with access to approximately 20,000 charging stations across the country. This development follows closely on the heels of Hyundai’s recent announcement that its EVs are also compatible with Tesla’s DC fast charging network.
While Kia, another brand under the Hyundai Motor Group umbrella, does not officially have Supercharger access, some Kia owners have discovered that they can charge their vehicles using a third-party adapter at select Tesla Superchargers.
For Genesis EV owners who purchased or leased their vehicles on or before January 31, 2025, the automaker is offering free NACS to CCS adapters. These adapters will be shipped to eligible owners starting the week of April 7. To qualify for the free adapter, owners must have an active MyGenesis account and opt-in to receive email notifications from the company.
Using third-party charging adapters at Tesla Superchargers is technically prohibited, so it’s important for owners to use only manufacturer-approved adapters to ensure safe and efficient charging. Genesis is making the process easy for its customers by providing complimentary adapters directly to their doorsteps.
Moving forward, Genesis plans to equip all of its EVs in the U.S. with NACS ports starting with the 2026 model year. This change will eliminate the need for NACS to CCS adapters at Superchargers but introduce the need for a different adapter – CCS to NACS – for owners who want to utilize CCS-equipped DC fast chargers operated by other charging networks.
As the electric vehicle market continues to expand, more charging operators are retrofitting their stalls with NACS cables to accommodate a wider range of EVs. This shift towards standardization and interoperability is crucial for ensuring seamless charging experiences for all electric vehicle owners.
Overall, Genesis’ decision to offer free NACS to CCS adapters to its customers demonstrates the brand’s commitment to providing a top-notch ownership experience. By enabling access to Tesla Superchargers and other charging networks, Genesis is making it easier for EV owners to charge their vehicles conveniently and efficiently.
