The transformation of an old gas station into a cutting-edge EV charging station in Apex, North Carolina is a testament to the changing landscape of transportation. The once Phillips 66 gas station, known for selling honey buns, has now been redeveloped by the Ionna charging network into a state-of-the-art “Chargery.” This project marks the beginning of a new era in EV infrastructure, with Ionna planning to open six sites by early February and a total of 100 sites by the end of 2025.
The Apex site, the first of its kind, offers a unique blend of amenities and services for EV drivers. From protective canopies over the charging stations to squeegees, trash bins, and air hoses for tire inflation, the site aims to provide a comfortable and convenient charging experience. The site also features 24-hour bathrooms with remote access via QR codes, a Zulia coffee bar, coworking rooms, and retro arcade games for entertainment.
The charging stations at the Apex site are equipped with 10 slots, with the potential for expansion to 12 or 15 slots in the future. Each cable can deliver up to 400 Kilowatts of power, and the swing arms are designed to reach rear charging ports on EVs parked nose-in. Unlike other networks, Ionna stations do not require users to “Plug in First” before validating the session, ensuring a seamless charging experience for all EV drivers.
In addition to the innovative design and amenities, Ionna plans to introduce three different site formats across the country. The flagship Rechargery Beacon sites will offer the most amenities and services, followed by the core Rechargery Relay sites, and selected retail partner sites. The goal is to provide a diverse range of charging options while maintaining a strong focus on hospitality and brand identity.
Despite the rapid expansion and development of the Ionna charging network, the company remains focused on reliability and customer satisfaction. Extensive testing and quality control measures have been implemented to ensure that every charging session is seamless and efficient. With a team of experienced professionals and a commitment to excellence, Ionna aims to redefine the EV charging experience and set new standards for the industry.
As EV adoption continues to grow, the need for reliable and convenient charging infrastructure becomes increasingly important. The Ionna charging network is poised to meet this demand with its innovative approach to site design, amenities, and customer service. With a vision for the future of mobility, Ionna is paving the way for a sustainable and accessible EV charging network across North America.
