Tesla Cybertruck Recalled Due to Accelerator Pedal Issue
Tesla has issued a recall for its Cybertruck model to address a potential safety issue with the accelerator pedal. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified a problem where a pad attached to the pedal may dislodge and become stuck by interior trim, leading to unintended acceleration.
The root cause of this issue has been traced back to the use of soap during assembly. The soap was used in an “unapproved” manner as a lubricant to assist in attaching the pad to the accelerator pedal. However, residual soap left behind during the process can make it easier for the pad to slide off the pedal and get trapped in the interior trim.
The recall affects 3,878 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024. Tesla has committed to replacing or reworking the accelerator-pedal assembly free of charge to rectify the issue. In the event of unintended acceleration, the NHTSA advises drivers to apply the brake pedal continuously to bring the vehicle to a stop.
Despite the potential safety risk, Tesla has confirmed that as of April 15, there have been no reported collisions, injuries, or fatalities related to this accelerator pedal issue. The automaker first became aware of the problem following a customer complaint on March 31.
The Cybertruck, which entered production at Tesla’s Texas plant in July 2023, has faced several setbacks since its launch. In addition to the accelerator pedal recall, the vehicle was also subject to a previous recall in January due to issues with the font size on warning lights.
Despite these challenges, Tesla remains committed to addressing any safety concerns promptly to ensure the continued satisfaction and safety of its customers.
