The Tesla Cybertruck Faces Another Recall Due to Rearview Camera Issues
The Tesla Cybertruck has once again been subject to a recall by the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Sept. 26. This time, the recall affects 27,185 2024 Cybertrucks that have rearview cameras with image delay issues.
The NHTSA highlighted that the delay in the image transmitted by the rearview camera to the in-cabin display violates federal law and poses safety risks for drivers.
The root cause of the issue lies in the system not completing its shutdown process before booting back up when the vehicle is put in reverse. This delay in the system’s operation may result in the rearview camera image not appearing within the required two-second timeframe, as per FMVSS 111, S6.23 standards.
Trucks built between Nov. 13, 2023, and Sept. 14, 2024, operating with specific low-voltage hardware software logic are affected by this recall.
Tesla identified the issue on Sept. 12 and conducted an internal assessment, leading to the decision to initiate a recall. As of Sept. 25, the company has received 45 warranty claims related to the problem but no reports of accidents or injuries.
An over-the-air (OTA) software update was rolled out starting Sept. 19 to address the rearview camera delay and ensure a proper two-second response time.
Affected Cybertruck owners can expect to receive recall notifications from Tesla after Sept. 30.
This latest recall marks the fifth for the Cybertruck, which has faced issues ranging from faulty wiper motors to accelerator pedal concerns within its first year on the market.
