Good news for owners of legacy Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles! Tesla’s Head of Autopilot and AI, Ashok Elluswamy, has confirmed that Actually Smart Summon will be coming to these vehicles in Q4 2024. This update is expected to roll out by January 24th, 2025.
Legacy vehicles, which were produced before the 2021 refresh but after the introduction of MCU2 (Intel) and Hardware 3, will be able to access Actually Smart Summon. This includes vehicles from 2016 onwards that can be upgraded from MCU 1 (NVIDIA) to MCU 2 (Intel) and from HW 2.5 to HW3.
One interesting point mentioned by Greentheonly is that the camera implementation in these legacy vehicles differs from newer models, making it challenging for Tesla to enable features like Actually Smart Summon and Live Sentry Mode access. However, Tesla is working on implementing Live Sentry Mode, which could be a significant enhancement for legacy vehicle owners.
Enhanced Features
Aside from Actually Smart Summon and Live Sentry Mode access, legacy vehicles currently lack certain features due to hardware limitations. These include auto seat heaters, blind-spot/turn signal camera feeds, and more. However, the addition of Live Sentry Mode access would be a valuable upgrade for these vehicles.
Tesla’s commitment to supporting legacy hardware and vehicles is evident in their efforts to provide updates and improvements for older models. It’s great to see that Hardware 3 will continue to receive support, and MCU1 vehicles have already benefited from recent enhancements like Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning improvements.
