Kia made a big announcement at the New York International Auto Show, revealing that their compact electric SUV, the EV3, will finally be available in the US market by late 2026. This model has been on the roads overseas since 2024, when it first launched in South Korea and Europe. The 2027 US version of the EV3 seems to maintain the same slightly boxy design as the current 2026 model, with some updates to the center console to address previous design critiques, such as the removal of the infamous “chopping board” armrest. Additionally, Kia is offering a new glossy black “Nightfall” appearance package option for the North American market.
Customers in the US can choose between standard and long-range configurations for the EV3, offering 220 and 320 miles per charge, respectively. The long-range models will also have the option for all-wheel drive. Kia boasts that the EV3’s DC fast charging capability can recharge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 29 minutes for standard range or 31 minutes for long range.
One of the standout features of the EV3 is Kia’s i-Pedal 3.0, which allows drivers to control their speed using just the accelerator pedal. This feature can be easily activated or deactivated using shifters on the steering wheel. Inside the EV3, drivers will find a panoramic dash display with dual 12.3-inch screens, along with a 5-inch climate display.
In addition to its impressive performance and technology features, the EV3 offers practicality with Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Home (V2H) capabilities. V2L enables drivers to charge various devices, from laptops to e-bikes, using the EV3’s power. V2H, which requires a Wallbox bidirectional charging system, allows the EV3 to power parts of a home, serving as a backup power supply during outages with a power recovery unit installed.
While Kia has not yet disclosed pricing for the US version of the EV3, they aim to keep it relatively affordable. However, the elimination of electric vehicle tax credits last year may pose a challenge in achieving this affordability, compared to when the EV3 was initially introduced in 2023.
Stay tuned for more updates as Kia prepares to launch the EV3 in the US market later this year.
