Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, in China. Positioned as a high-performance luxury electric SUV, the YU7 is set to rival Tesla’s Model Y. With a starting price of 253,500 yuan (approximately $35,320 USD), the YU7 is slightly more affordable than its American competitor. In fact, within just three minutes of its launch, Xiaomi received an impressive 200,000 pre-orders for the YU7, breaking records in China.
The YU7 is available in multiple trims, with the top-end model priced at around $46,000 USD. Packed with high-end features, the interior of the YU7 boasts a massive 16.1-inch center touchscreen, a panoramic dashboard display, and luxurious Nappa leather zero-gravity front seats with 10-point massaging functionality. Rear passengers are also treated to power-adjustable reclining seats, dual rear screens, and premium soft-touch materials throughout.
In terms of performance, the YU7 doesn’t disappoint. With up to 681 horsepower, it can accelerate from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds. The vehicle is equipped with a large 101.7 kWh battery pack that provides an impressive range of up to 770 km (478 miles) on the CLTC cycle. Xiaomi claims that the YU7 also offers ultra-fast charging speeds, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.
Built on a dual-motor AWD platform, the YU7 features advanced suspension technology, including a double wishbone front and five-link rear setup with air springs, ensuring a smooth and responsive ride. On the tech front, the YU7 comes with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, 11 HD cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, and a 4D millimeter-wave radar, enabling a wide range of autonomous driving features.
With its sleek design, low drag coefficient, panoramic glass roof, and spacious interior, the YU7 is not just a competitor to the Model Y but a statement in itself. This marks Xiaomi’s second entry into the EV market, following the launch of the SU7 sedan last year. While Tesla’s Model Y continues to dominate the Chinese EV market, the arrival of the YU7 and other compelling offerings from domestic manufacturers signals increasing competition in the industry.
