Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) Global Expansion: Is Your Country Next?
Tesla is making strides in its journey from an electric car manufacturer to an artificial intelligence powerhouse, with its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software leading the charge. While FSD has been a staple in North America for years, 2026 is set to be the year when Tesla’s FSD system goes global.
The ultimate goal for Tesla is to transition from the current “Supervised” version, where human intervention is still required, to a fully “Unsupervised” system. This would enable Tesla vehicles to operate as true robotaxis, navigating complex environments autonomously. To achieve this goal, Tesla needs a vast array of data from different road networks, weather conditions, and traffic laws, which is why the company is aggressively expanding into new international markets.
Currently, FSD (Supervised) is available in countries like the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and China (with limitations due to local data laws). Europe is the next big frontier for Tesla, with approval expected in the Netherlands soon, paving the way for a wider rollout across the continent. Additionally, Israel and the UAE are also on the radar for imminent FSD launches.
Japan poses a unique challenge for Tesla due to its narrow streets and specific traffic rules, but the company is aiming to launch FSD in Japan by the end of 2026. Rumors suggest that the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil could be next in line for FSD expansion.
Tesla’s global expansion isn’t just about selling software; it’s about gathering data and ensuring safety. Every kilometer driven in a new country helps enhance the neural network’s understanding of diverse human behaviors and road layouts. This global expansion will lay the groundwork for Tesla’s Robotaxi network, currently being piloted in Austin.
As Tesla gears up for rapid-fire launches worldwide, the company aims to be the first to achieve autonomy on a global scale. Stay tuned for more updates on Tesla’s FSD journey.
