- Volvo’s ES90 electric sedan will showcase the most powerful computing capacity ever seen in a Volvo vehicle.
- The EX90 electric SUV will also receive an upgrade to the same advanced processing technology through a retrofit.
- These enhancements will enable the vehicles to support AI-based features and implement more efficient battery management.
Volvo recently unveiled its plan to introduce even more advanced computing hardware in its upcoming electric vehicles, building on the tech stack introduced in its current models.
The ES90 sedan, set to be fully revealed on March 5, will be equipped with Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin computing platform, boasting an impressive capability of approximately 508 trillion TOPS. This will give the ES90 the most powerful core computing capacity of any Volvo model to date, essential for supporting AI features, advanced safety technologies, onboard sensors, and an optimized battery management system.
In addition to the ES90, the EX90 electric SUV, which already features Volvo’s Superset tech stack, will also be retrofitted with the latest computing hardware. This move towards a software-defined vehicle approach aims to enable faster software updates and the implementation of new features through over-the-air updates.

2025 Volvo EX90
Both the ES90 and the EX90 will be based on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, along with the Polestar 3, emphasizing the company’s shift towards software-centric innovation. Volvo’s focus on software as the primary driver of value creation for customers signals a strategic move away from traditional hardware-oriented approaches.
The ES90 will prioritize safety with a sophisticated sensor array including lidar, radar units, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and an advanced driver understanding system. These features will enable advanced driver-assist and safety functionalities to be unveiled in the future.
While Volvo faced initial challenges with the software integration in the EX90, the company aims to address these issues before the ES90 launch. The transition to software-defined vehicles represents Volvo’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
