Hamilton Police are currently investigating a major case of vandalism that occurred at a Tesla dealership located on the Hamilton Mountain in Ontario. Reports came in on March 19, 2025, indicating that several vehicles at the dealership had been damaged. Upon arrival at the Tesla location at 999 Upper Wentworth Street, officers found that around 80 Tesla vehicles parked outside had been vandalized. The damage included deep scratches and punctured tires, prompting investigators to review security footage in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.
The Tesla facility in question spans an impressive 60,000 square feet and serves as both a showroom and a full-scale service center—making it the largest Tesla service center in Canada. The showroom is conveniently located inside a mall, while the service center has a separate external entrance for vehicle drop-offs, making it easily accessible near major roadways such as the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway and Highway 403.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may aid in solving this case. Those with relevant details are encouraged to contact the on-duty Division 3 Staff Sergeant at 905-546-3886. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
Const. Trevor McKenna of the Hamilton Police emphasized that while the current global climate may be tense, there is no indication that this incident was motivated by any specific political or social factors. The investigation is still ongoing as law enforcement works to unravel the motive behind the vandalism.
The recent wave of vandalism targeting Tesla cars and dealerships in Canada is believed to be a reaction to Elon Musk’s association with U.S. President Donald Trump and his involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk’s controversial statements and actions, including provocative social media posts, have fueled tensions amidst a Canada-U.S. trade war exacerbated by Trump’s tariffs on Canadian steel and retaliatory measures taken by Canada.
It is important to remember that vandalism is a criminal act with real consequences. The individuals whose vehicles were damaged in this incident are innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire of larger geopolitical tensions. As the investigation continues, authorities are hopeful that those responsible for the vandalism will be held accountable for their actions.
