Police in Greater Manchester have seized a Tesla Cybertruck that was found to be operating on UK roads despite not being compliant with local regulations. The Cybertruck, which was legally registered but not in the UK, was pulled over in Whitefield, Bury, earlier this week.
The driver of the Cybertruck, a permanent UK resident, was found to be in violation of UK road laws by operating a vehicle that was registered and insured abroad. The lack of a certificate of conformity, required to meet British vehicle safety standards, rendered the Cybertruck not road legal in the UK. As a result, the vehicle was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act, and the driver was formally reported by authorities.
Although the Cybertruck is approved for road use in some countries outside North America, it has faced challenges in meeting UK regulatory and safety standards due to its unconventional design. This has raised concerns among authorities regarding the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
Despite potential views of the seizure as excessive, authorities have stressed the importance of enforcing road safety measures to protect all road users. The driver of the seized Cybertruck will need to demonstrate ownership and obtain proper insurance before reclaiming the vehicle. However, even if returned, the Cybertruck will remain prohibited from public road usage in the UK.
