Uber has introduced a groundbreaking new AI feature within its Uber Eats app called “Cart Assistant,” designed to streamline the grocery shopping experience for users. This innovative tool utilizes artificial intelligence technology to assist users in creating grocery lists and populating their carts with preferred items.
The functionality of Cart Assistant is twofold. Users can interact with the AI through text prompts, similar to a chatbot, to request the creation of a grocery list. Alternatively, users have the option to upload a picture of their shopping list and instruct the bot to add all desired items to their cart based on past order history. The AI is advanced enough to recognize specific brands and preferences, making the process seamless and efficient.
As Uber continues to develop Cart Assistant, additional features are expected to be rolled out in the upcoming months. These enhancements may include full recipe inspiration, personalized meal plans, the ability to ask follow-up questions, and integration with various retail partners. However, Uber advises users to verify and confirm the accuracy of their orders before finalizing purchases, as with any AI technology, errors may occur.
At launch, Cart Assistant is compatible with select grocery stores, including Albertsons, Aldi, CVS, Kroger, Safeway, Sprouts, Walgreen, and Wegmans. Uber plans to expand its network of retail partners in the future, providing users with a wider range of options for their grocery needs.
Uber has collaborated with OpenAI to incorporate Uber Eats into its suite of apps. While the specifics of the AI technology powering Cart Assistant remain undisclosed, Uber spokesperson Richard Foord has confirmed that the chatbot leverages publicly available LLM models in addition to Uber’s proprietary AI stack.
In its pursuit of enhancing user experience through AI technology, Uber has been actively introducing AI-driven features across its platforms. From robotaxis with Waymo to sidewalk delivery robots in various cities, Uber is continuously striving to innovate and improve its services. The company’s recent revival of its AI Labs underscores its commitment to leveraging data and technology to deliver exceptional products and services to its customers.
