Toyota has unveiled a new electric sedan in China, the bZ7, which is set to rival its own Lexus ES EV in the market. This flagship electric sedan is larger than a Camry and offers a level of luxury not typically seen in vehicles with a bZ badge. While specific details such as specs and dimensions are still scarce, Toyota has confirmed that the bZ7 will be over five meters long, putting it in the same size category as the BMW i5.
The bZ7 features a sleek and aerodynamic design, with a low nose and fastback-style rear that sets it apart from other electric sedans on the market. Despite being similar in size to the Lexus ES, the bZ7 shares no mechanical components with its luxury counterpart. Toyota has not disclosed the exact platform on which the bZ7 is built, but it is speculated that it could be based on a platform from GAC, which will co-develop and manufacture the vehicle in China.
In terms of design, the bZ7 takes inspiration from the Toyota Crown, with a hint of the Prius-like face. It is considered the most elegant bZ-badged vehicle to date, boasting a low-slung shape and tapering greenhouse. The interior of the bZ7 is equally impressive, featuring a minimalistic layout similar to the new Lexus ES and adorned with wood trim for a luxurious touch.
The bZ7 is part of Toyota’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle lineup, particularly in the Chinese market. The company plans to bring the bZ7 to market next year, with the possibility of introducing it to other automotive markets in the future. As Toyota moves away from the bZ nomenclature for future models, the bZ7 could mark the end of the bZ line. More information about the bZ7 and its potential availability in other regions is expected to be revealed later this year.
