Toyota is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the bZ3X, a new electric crossover that is similar in size to the popular Rav4 model. However, there is one major drawback – the bZ3X is not available for sale in the United States.
The bZ3X is a collaboration between Toyota and China’s GAC and has been specifically developed for the Chinese market. With pre-orders now open in China, the starting price for the bZ3X is an impressive 100,000 yuan (approximately $13,800). Even at the highest trim level, the price only goes up to 200,000 yuan ($27,500), which is significantly lower than the entry-level bZ4X available in the US.
Despite the lower price tag, the bZ3X offers impressive specs and features. There are three trim levels available – 430 Air+, 520 Pro+, and 620 Max. The entry-level trim comes equipped with a single electric motor producing 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower) and a 50-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that provides a range of 267 miles (430 kilometers) on a full charge.
The higher trim levels are expected to offer even more impressive range figures, with the 520 Pro+ likely to have a range of 323 miles (520 km) and the 620 Max offering a range of 385 miles (620 km). Recharging the battery from 30% to 80% state of charge is reported to take just 24 minutes.
In terms of technology, the bZ3X comes with an advanced driver assistance system powered by Nvidia, which utilizes 27 sensors including cameras, radars, and lidar. This system enables features such as speed limit assist, traffic light assist, remote parking, and blind spot monitoring.
Inside the bZ3X, buyers can expect a two-spoke steering wheel, ambient lighting, and an 11-speaker Yamaha audio system. The digital instrument cluster is displayed on an 8.8-inch screen, while the infotainment system is controlled through a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen.
Chinese customers can secure their spot for the Toyota bZ3X by pre-ordering for $275, which will guarantee priority delivery when shipments begin in March next year. While the bZ3X may not be available in the US, its impressive features and competitive pricing make it a strong contender in the electric vehicle market.
