Tesla has recently introduced a more budget-friendly version of the Model Y crossover in the United States. Known as the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, this model comes with a starting price of $46,630 before the $7,500 federal tax credit. With an EPA-estimated range of 357 miles on a full charge, the new Model Y is a compelling option for electric vehicle enthusiasts.
One of the key selling points of this new model is its eligibility for the federal EV incentive, which brings down the starting price to $39,130 after factoring in the tax credit. It’s important to note that there are income restrictions for customers to qualify for this incentive, both for purchasing and leasing the vehicle.
The Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is powered by a single rear-mounted motor, offering a slightly longer range compared to the All-Wheel Drive version. Despite being $4,000 cheaper, this model can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 125 miles per hour, matching its more expensive counterpart.
Standard features of the new Model Y include 19-inch wheels with all-season tires, a five-seat black interior, and a grey exterior paint option. The vehicle also comes equipped with a 16-speaker sound system, ambient lighting, and dual displays for both front and rear passengers.
In terms of charging capabilities, the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive can charge at a maximum speed of 250 kilowatts. Thanks to its longer range, this model can gain more miles in 15 minutes compared to the dual-motor version.
Customers also have the option to customize their Model Y with additional features such as different exterior colors, 20-inch wheels, a tow hitch, a roof rack, all-weather mats, and Tesla’s Full Self-Driving advanced driver assistance system.
Tesla plans to start deliveries of the new Model Y variant in approximately one month. Additionally, there is a more affordable version of the Model Y available in other markets, which features a shorter driving range and slightly different standard equipment.
Overall, the introduction of the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive provides customers with a more accessible option in Tesla’s lineup. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, this new model could help Tesla boost its sales and market presence.
