Tesla recently introduced a new program called the Model Y Demo Drive, which offers customers the opportunity to experience what it’s like to own an electric vehicle (EV). As someone living in a townhouse without charging infrastructure, I was intrigued by the idea of testing out the Model Y for a weekend.
I was contacted by a Sales Advisor from a local showroom who offered me the chance to take the Model Y home for the weekend. Excited by the prospect, I quickly agreed and made plans to share the experience with family and friends.
My first order of business was to explore the Full Self-Driving capabilities of the Model Y. Taking my Fiancè for a hands-free drive was a thrilling experience, as we navigated through different terrains and road conditions. The following day, I took my parents on their first-ever FSD journey, which completely changed their perspective on the technology.
One of my initial concerns about owning an EV was the lack of charging infrastructure in my neighborhood. However, driving the Long Range All-Wheel-Drive Model Y with a range of 327 miles alleviated those worries. Despite not having home charging, I realized that weekly visits to a Supercharger would be sufficient for my needs.
The Full Self-Driving feature of the Model Y was a game-changer for me. While I initially planned to drive manually most of the time, I found myself relying on FSD for 95% of the journey. From navigating busy highways to parking in crowded lots, the technology made driving effortless.
However, I did encounter some challenges with FSD, particularly in parking lots where the system exhibited hesitancy and lack of confidence. Despite these minor issues, the overall performance of FSD was impressive and made driving a breeze.
After a weekend filled with memorable experiences, including testing out Autopark and navigating tricky highway merges, I was convinced that owning a Model Y was the right choice for me. The seamless integration of technology, impressive range, and overall driving experience left me eager to make a trade-in in the coming months.
In conclusion, the Model Y Demo Drive was a transformative experience that dispelled any doubts I had about owning an EV. The combination of cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, and unique features like Fart on Contact/Sit Happens made it a weekend to remember. I look forward to getting my hands on another Tesla vehicle for another thrilling weekend adventure.
